Which Path Will You Choose?

September 21, 2010

When confronted with the thought of a Chronic Illness, many people shudder. Myself included. I never thought it would ever happen to me. I have always been extremely caring of others, and I always take a genuine interest in the well-being of other people. I feel like I don’t deserve it. But of course, if everyone got what they deserved, the world would be a very different place.

So why did this happen to me? I believe it was probably a pre-ordained event, that needed to happen, in order to lead me down the exact path that I needed to go. Optimistic Wellness wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t gone through it, you know. ;)

Most people see 2 possible paths, emotionally, during the course of a tough situation. The first path, my favorite, is to make the best of it. To find the so-called ‘silver lining’. Although you are going through a bad time, you choose to refuse to lose. And taking the path of optimism, is refusing to lose.

Because I can’t see the second path as an option, I have a hard time explaining it. I guess it’s when people see their situation as the end of their life and they just go through the motions, stay in their shell, avoid social interactions at all costs for the rest of their life..WHAT KIND OF LIFE IS THAT?! I know that life is completely unfair, and you don’t deserve to go through a bad situation like that, but COME ON! You just have to keep living. Play to win.

The path of optimism consists of living your life helping other people
.  I focus on other people. I let out my frustrations in the form of help and advice. Helping people overcome challenges, is something that makes me feel great. Focusing outward, towards helping and connecting with other people, is a huge step towards living a life full of Optimistic Wellness.

In life, we face all types of challenges. Some of them are expected, yet most of them aren’t. When faced with an obstacle, the most important question is: How will you react? Will you choose to go down the path of despair, and disconnect from your humanity? Or will you go down the path of optimism, and come alive?

One individual who I admire, and is currently on the path of optimism, is Sean Stephenson. There’s a great quote in The Shawshank Redemption: “Get busy living or get busy dying”. Well, we are doing both at the same time. It’s just a matter of what you focus on. Living or dying. Sean Stephenson focuses on living a complete life, despite physical handicaps. He has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a disease that makes him 3 feet tall with brittle bones. And what does he do? He lives the life of a Rockstar!

I believe that Optimism is the only way, because I want to live a happy life.

I also want you to live a happy life, and I hope you feel the same way! :)

    I like Sean Stephenson too!

You have a good energy about you Josh, lots of passion too when you speak. You’re doing a good thing on this blog.

What do you do to feel good during your time here? What hobbies do you enjoy?

I’ll definitely be coming around more in the future.

Lindsay, I appreciate that, and I hope you’re feeling brand new and inspired in New York :)

Steven, Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! I try to radiate an energy of passion and optimism, because I try my best to live with optimism and wellness.

    It’s how I love to live :)

I think the #1 thing that makes me feel good, is taking action. When I don’t take any action towards my vision in a single day, I feel pretty bad. When I hang out with friends, I feel great! I love to play guitar and work with computers. I am currently reading classic books like “Crime and Punishment” and “Robinson Crusoe”. I am quite enjoying it! I’ll try to keep you updated, and keep this blog updated with what hobbies I have! I’m a renaissance soul, so my hobbies are always changing, haha.

And Tim Brownson is definitely amazing. He’s got a very unique sense of humor that I find very appealing to read. Not everyone will like it, but I’m glad I do!

    Josh,

    Thank you for this video.

Optimism is an approach. It is a choice. Bad things will happen to people. Oh? Was that not positive? OK. Fine. I am positive bad things are going to happen to people.

It is all a lie. Nobody’s life is perfect. And once we realize that, we will stop complaining and whining and choose to do that thing and not use our “bad thing” a clutch. Don’t get bitter, get better. Learn from it. And this is something I try to learn and do constantly.

Back to you dude, you have every right to be upset at life but the very fact you are out here sharing your story and inspiring others…you are doing great things and I am looking forward to truly get to know you more.

    P.S. Where’s that guest post?

Roy, thank you so much for stopping by, and you’re very welcome! Nice wordplay by the way. ;)

Here’s a great quote that I think you will find quite inspirational.

“Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that’s true strength.”

My guest post is in the text, in the paragraph ‘the path of optimism consists of living your life helping other people’.

I saw your video on katy perry’s firework winner post. Just wanted you to know that I am a Pennsylvanian also and have had crohn’s since I was 17. I suffered through it until last summer when I finally got my surgery also. I am now 26. I know for sure that my positive attitude is the only thing that gave me the strength to get my surgery and to feel comfortable after.. glad you are doing well and keep your spirit alive… good luck and stay healthy..
