Therese Schwenkler – The Real Story Interview Series #10

March 6, 2012

‘The Real Story’ Interview Series isn’t just an interview. It’s an experience. Join me as I explore the lives and stories of influential people in many different industries. I believe that everyone has an amazing story to share; full of ups, downs, twists and turns. And I know that you will feel exactly the same way, after listening to these interviews!

Therese Schwenkler is all about helping people get Unlost in their life, hence the name of her site, The Unlost. Paraphrasing her words: “the advice for young people freaking sucks,” and her goal is to bring that suckiness to an end. Her articles have a lot of heart and passion, and they definitely help me redefine my situation in life on a regular basis.

Here are some of my favorite articles from The Unlost. Check them out, because they’re excellent:

What to Do When You’re Lost and Confused

How Cosmopolitan Magazine is Misleading a Generation of Young Women

Here are some of the things that Therese shared in our interview:

*Why Going Through Traditional Job Posting Routes (ex. Monster.com) can get you lost in the crowd

*Why Being Unconventional is Often the Best Way to Do Things

*How it’s so Easy to Forget How Lucky We Are

*What Therese Learned from Her Struggle with Severe Arthritis

*How Getting Knocked Back to Square 1 Can be Amazing for your Personal Growth

*What Therese Learned about Relationships from Cosmopolitan Magazine growing up, and why it’s COMPLETELY WRONG.

*How Therese got the Courage to quit her Accounting Job in April “without a hint of doubt in her soul”

*Why Getting Lost Could be Amazing for your Growth as a Human Being

*And much more!

You can find out more about Therese Schwenkler at her website, The Unlost. As I mentioned, Therese writes in a unique and compelling way. She shares her struggles, gives genuine/actually helpful advice, and in turn draws people in. That’s why I reached out to Therese. She knows who her audience is, and genuinely connects with them. I’m a fan!

Of course, Therese. And you shared some amazing insights that will help out so many people. Your message to young people about getting Unlost, and to young women about finding their own confidence will be a GAME CHANGER. You’ll see.

Actually, I’ll see. You’ll be too busy doing it!

Great interview; I can hear a little Tolle in you=) Just because. We don’t have to DO anything to earn our worthiness. Funny how hard of a lesson that is.

It is astounding how quickly we forget once we start to feel better. Even coming in and out of depression … at times I have lost some of my empathy and compassion for friends in its grip, forgetting (suppressing?) the despair that paralyzed me not months earlier. Or my hip’ll feel better for a while and I’ll lose track of the mental state chronic pain trapped me in. It’s a coping mechanism, of course; we don’t care WHY we feel better, just that we DO.

Sometimes you just *know* when it’s time. All the best on your journey.

Thank you very much for the kind words!

It seems Freud was on to something. I do suppress my tough experiences. All of the hard times I had with my Crohn’s Disease are pretty much at the back of my mind, and it’s tough to recall it sometimes. Then I find myself being weighed down by the little things, and real world problems, like: Is this business idea going to work? Am I going to build a good following?

Where as questions that I used to ask were: Am I ever gonna escape the grips of this illness?

I did escape, but not to the place that I expected. And that’s why I agree with you. The things we experience are never quite like we imagined them. It really keeps us on our feet.
