May 28th, 2011, I participated in a Ballet Recital. It doesn’t sound like a life changing event. But it is. And let me tell you why.
If you had told me during the most intense period of my illness that I would be doing ballet dance in less than 2 years time, I would have been in complete awe and disbelief! But that is exactly what happened. It happened because I was optimistic, and I knew that no matter what, my situation would eventually improve. The painkillers would be replaced by daily meditation. The hospital bed would be replaced with my very comfortable bed at home (oh, how comfortable your own bed is after spending 20 days straight in the hospital!).
Later, I would record a video about how daily stretching can change your life, and I sent it to my old dance teacher, whom I had previously reconnected with on Facebook! She invited me to come to her dance studio, and there was no way I could turn it down.
The recital was a few days ago, and I believe I did a good job. But my performance doesn’t matter to me as much as actually being there. I got to be a part of a whole. And I learned that working with other people is one of the most rewarding things in life. I got to see all of the hard work that my teammates put into their dances, and it was incredibly inspiring. Shout out to DANCE ARTS OF YARDLEY!
But what does all of this mean to you? How can you improve your life from this information? I would plead the case to join some kind of physical exercise club! A Dance Studio or a Martial Arts Studio are 2 great places that come to mind. A place where you can go to get physical exercise, work with the same people over a long period of time, and become a part of a greater whole! By that, I mean a place that has competitions/showcases/parties at the end of the year. You’ll feel how truly great it is to celebrate victory in life. You’ll get a temporary taste of success, and you’ll get addicted. And that’s a great addiction to have!
