Overview
Have you ever given anyone advice? I bet you have. But has the person always followed your advice? Probably not.
An idea just came to me, about truly practicing what we preach to others, and how we can really take action to make our lives better as a result.
My main point is this: When you have a problem in your life, what advice would you give to a person in your exact same situation, with your exact same problem? Once you have that answer, apply and follow the same advice yourself!
Zooming Out
It really helps to zoom out on your own life. Imagining that your problems are someone else’s is a wonderful way to get perspective.
Here’s an example of someone in a tough situation. Perhaps you resonate with this person’s problems, perhaps not. Maybe you are going through the exact problem yourself. What advice would you give in this situation?
Joey Schmoey is procrastinating heavily. He has work that he needs to get done, yet he spends time checking his email, facebook, and twitter. In that exact order, every 10 minutes. Almost every day. He absolutely knows that he should get to work, yet he can’t seem to will himself into it. It’s a vicious cycle that needs to stop.
What advice do you have for Mr. Schmoey?
Write it down.
Do you see where this is going? You can do the same thing for pretty much any situation that you are going through, or any problem. Imagine that your best friend is going through the EXACT same thing that you are going through. What would you genuinely advise them to do?
The advice that you give, is the advice that your gut knows it should follow.
GO WITH YOUR GUT!!

And before zooming out I like to give myself a hot bath first.
So I can cool myself down before giving myself any real friendly advice
