Your nervous system is a funny thing. It wants to stay where it’s at. If you introduce a daily stretching routine into the equation, your nervous system will panic.
It doesn’t want to get out of it’s comfort zone. Sound familiar?
And it’s a great metaphor for life. At first, you will struggle. You’ll feel frustrated, and want to quit, because the stretches will be painful, and you won’t see any results.
Then, surely but VERY slowly, you will begin to see results. Your nervous system, and muscles, will have adopted a brand new comfort zone. And then you have to push it from there. You have to keep pushing it!!
I have been stretching daily since early January 2010. I’m not where I want to be with my stretches. I have made progress for a few months, and then regressed. It’s a lot like my life. And that’s why I love it. Because I keep trying every day. No matter how I feel that day, I will ALWAYS do my morning stretching.
Nowadays, I listen to inspirational music when I stretch. The louder the music, the more motivated I am to push myself harder.
Stretching + Music + A Burning Desire to Improve my life = Success.
Again, I am nowhere NEAR where I want to be. When I was younger, I participated in all types of dance classes, karate, and gymnastics. I was ridiculously flexible. And now, I am trying to get it back. I will not be stopped, and neither will you.
Keep pushing the limits.

Thanks for messaging me about the new video Josh!
I’m impressed that you have been so consistent with your stretching exercises. I just recently started exercising and, although I’m not as consistent, I am noticing some improvement in my flexibility and stamina.
I do a lot of similar stretches as you. I can’t do the split though – I need more work first!
Eye of the tiger…great touch.
Steven, Thank YOU for messaging me in the first place. It means a lot, man!
I actually started these stretching exercises, after a very unproductive month. I performed a ‘self intervention’ journal entry. I wrote about how my life was going, how my future would look if I continued to go down that path, and what I was going to do about it.
I added a morning routine, which consisted of stretching, reading, and meditation. As well as a nighttime routine, with journal writing, and a small amount of meditation/reading. Despite all of the other changes in my life, I have been able to maintain both for these past 10 months. That gives me a great idea for a new blog post, haha. Thank you Steven!
Btw, keep trying the split every day if you aren’t doing it already. It’ll be very painful, and it might seem like you’re not making any progress. But you WILL achieve it sooner or later.
Thanks!
Josh.
PS: Eye of the Tiger is always a great touch
. I was browsing through the music list, and I knew I had to put it on!!
Hey great video, you inspired me to do more in my life. It’s hard enough to do something for a week and you did it for 9 months that’s awesome. Keep blogging, your inspiring others.
Bart
Bart! Thank you for the kind words. After about 6 months, I still couldn’t get the split and I was really frustrated. But then I chose to keep pushing through the pain every day, and I knew that I would eventually get there. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish in 10 months when we chip away every single day. If only it were easy to take action every day to improve every area of our lives.
Take care, Bart!
Josh Lipovetsky.
I do stretchings like everyday too, no serious moves, just going with my mood.
I get up, go to the window, open the curtains and then start stretching my body in the sunlight and plain silence
I just enjoy starting my day with my blood well pumped to all my finger & foot points ^^
Sandy, I love that routine! The sunlight in the morning is so good for your energy and boosts your morale.
Thanks,
Josh Lipovetsky.
You are just adorable! Love that enthusiasm!!
Thank you very much for the kind words, Vicky!
