Me

My name is Josh Lipovetsky. I am 18 years old, and I believe that optimism is the cure for everything. (well, maybe not EVERYTHING. But you get the point!)

When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease/UC at the age of 15, I used my optimistic spirit to deal with it in the best way I knew how.

I was in the hospital often, and I used the time to improve myself as a person. I learned to become a better conversationalist (talking to all of the nurses, doctors, and staff), a more compassionate person (listening to the problems/concerns/stories of people that I met), and a more optimistic person (always focusing on the positives). The weirdest thing, is that I am probably happier now than I was before the disease.

This isn’t to say that the physical disease is not the worst thing that has ever happened to me, because it is. By far. But that my disease has helped me put my life into perspective, and I have started asking the question: “What can I do to make my life have meaning?”. Rather than: “What is the meaning of life?”. I have no idea where I would be right now, if I didn’t have this disease. Probably living it up in the ‘real’ world, instead of typing this on my computer.

But you know what? I like this world. I like my life just the way it is.
